FAQ

So what is the religion/belief?If you have not already done so, we strongly suggest you get “The Satanic Bible”, and read it. It is a diabolical book, the basis for our philosophy. Satanism is not for everyone, but if it is for you, we welcome you. We are not a fan club, a pen-pal society, or a lonely hearts group. We are an organization of dynamic individuals who stand forth as the ultimate freedom fighters, modern day Bravehearts for their cause. We realize what we have, what we are, and what we shall become. Our scope is unlimited, and the extent of your involvement is based upon your own potential. In recent years, we’ve wasted far too much time explaining that Satanism has nothing to do with kidnapping, child molestation, animal or child sacrifice, or any number of other acts which idiots, hysterics or opportunists would like to blame on us. Satanism is a life-loving, rational philosophy that millions of people adhere to.Why Satanism?
What is one thing everyone and everybody wants (at least for the majority of their lives)? To be liked. To be better than someone else. In the Christian scriptures, Satan rebelled against Jesus. He wanted to be more powerful, and he wanted people to follow him. So many followers of Jesus rarely ask why he did such a thing, and just lash out on the thought of Satan. If it is true, that Satan rebelled against Jesus for those reasons, he followed possibly one of the highest laws of mankind. He was tired of being in Jesus’ shadow, and wanted more out of his life, as well as loyal friends like Jesus had. If the scriptures are true then Satan would’ve been alright in anyone’s book. This kind of goes hand in hand already with Modern Satanism, but look at it from a new point of view: Satan is what we all are. We are all of the elite, and we are all better than someone else, some more than others. We believe and indulge in mankinds laws and desires. This is why we follow Satanism. Because in our way of thinking, we were primarily just like the Christian Satan… A leader rather than a follower. “Think about it.”The Church of Satan charges application fees for membership and further involvement and accepts money from people. Complete scam! The Satanic Chapel is way better.First off, we’re probably not the best but we’re there. The Church of Satan is an organization that charges $200 for membership while the Satanic Chapel charges nothing at all. Satanism is a religion/unreligion. Since we are one of the first Satanic religions whose organized body ACCEPTS the tax exempt status unlike the Church of Satan but the CoS says they accept money to keep it moving and that they pay BACK into the economic system, all I can say is COMPLETE BULLSHIT. If you have been ripped off by these bastards please sue them at your local Small Claims Court (no Lawyer required) and get your $200 back! The good thing about all this is that we still don’t ask you for money, therefore we’re truly a non-profit church. Why do you say “Hail Satan?
1. “‘Hail Satan!’ (the exclamation point is optional, though preferred) is often another way of saying ‘Hail Me!’ Since we Satanists embody the qualities of The Great Archetype, Satan, it stands to reason that the phrase is both apropos and analogous. You very well could say ‘Hail Me!’ instead, but keep in mind this…
2. “‘Hail Satan!’ is also a salute to our achievements (both collective and, more importantly, individual), ethics, and heritage. It is a statement of pride in defiance of a polyglot, egalitarian, and ignorant way of life represented by the nauseating Christ ethos and its followers. If we have signed any pact with Satan, it is this.”

Who is Satan?

In Satanism, Satan is an archetype, a representation of certain qualities that the Satanist embodies including rational self-interest, avoidance of oppressive mentalities, the questioning of all, and a perseverance towards success and human potential. In Jewish, Christian, and Islamic mythology, Satan is an angel who, after initially [in the “Old Testament”] being a questioner or challenger of God’s goals and decisions, led a revolt against God and the loyal angels, was defeated, and was banished to an underworld called Hell, to which the same mythology also dooms inadequate or disobedient Christians and Muslims. [The Jewish afterlife in “Sheol” is not Satan-run, and is generally applicable to obedient & disobedient humans alike.] Over the Christian centuries, gods from competing religions were incorporated into Christianity’s Satan and Hell, hence the Pan-like renditions of Satan, the use of the Roman “Lucifer” as an alternate name for him (sometimes used to identify him “pre-fall”), etc. The Satanic Bible encapsulates this iconography in The Nine Satanic Statements, which are thus:

1) Satan represents indulgence, instead of abstinence!
2) Satan represents vital existence, instead of spiritual pipe dreams!
3) Satan represents undefiled wisdom, instead of hypocritical self-deceit!
4) Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates!
5) Satan represents vengeance, instead of turning the other cheek!
6) Satan represents responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires!
7) Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!
8) Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!
9) Satan has been the best friend the church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years!

Inherently, the Satanic archetype is far more diverse than the limited Christian interpretation. Satanism, to one degree or another, embraces numerous cultural and religious versions such as those of ancient Rome and ancient Greece, Egyptian, Zoroastrianism, Asatru, Aztec, Hindu, Free Masonry, and a multitude of others. We also find the Satanic persona emanating from some or all of the literary works of Milton, Nietzsche, Mencken, Maugham, Twain, Rand, Jung, Crowley and many more. To say that Satanism is inverse Christianity is both ignorant and shortsighted.

Why Satan?

We take the name Satan in concept only. Any other connection is thrust upon us by anxious, ignorant, and/or misinformed people. The archetype itself, by whatever name is appropriate, is far older than Christianity or Judaism, and it was these religions that, in order to gain a foothold in the world, decided to destroy and bastardize the “pagan gods.” Satan was the first revolutionist. Therefore, Satan as defined in morals and dogma, is the perfect figurehead for a revolutionary religion. His act of rebellion was the first allegory of freedom. By extension, instead of worshipping Satan, we emulate him/her. The Holy Bible was probably one of the greatest pieces of propaganda (with Mein Kampf running a close second) in world history but, quite frankly, we think that the intelligent members of a scientifically, philosophically, and technologically advanced civilization should logically cease to have a need for such outmoded parables and slave ethics.

After reading about you guys, I want you to give me MORE. Would you answer my long list of questions? HELL NO. Please do the research work yourself, everybody has to find truth on their own. If you have REALLY read The Satanic Bible and related books, critically read some of the other materials, and really paid attention to the websites with legitimate information on them or even read “The Satanic Mini Bible” in the Emporium, then you have MORE than enough of a jump start. (What do you think those pre-Internet folks such as us did? We actually took the initiative and worked for what we know. Don’t be exactly surprised if we don’t jump to your turf and call every time you have a question.) The rest is up to you. Apply what you know and see what happens. It is not the job of any Chapel member or administrator to hold your hand and lead you down the Left-Hand Path. That journey is a solitary one, as any true individual knows.
